For pharmaceutical applications, diamondoids are carbon
based molecules with multiple shapes, including chiral forms; they
are rigid, and are the right size to interact with biological active
sites. They offer the potential for a new level of precision in drug
design. Rigid molecules are known to have superior uptake characteristics
for patients. They have lipophilic characteristics for targeted
transport and adsorption, and can be readily derivatized to tailored
biomedical activity.
