| MolecularDiamond Technologies has successfully
produced gram quantities of higher diamondoids, a new class of
molecular building blocks. These diamondoids, the discovery of which
was announced December 2002, are available immediately for application
development and R&D.
Lower diamondoids have been isolated by others, however, only
MolecularDiamond Technologies has been able to isolate and now produce
significant quantities of the higher diamondoids.
Chevron has isolated separately gram quantities of two different
structures of tetramantane molecules and one pentamantane molecule in
pure crystalline form. Tetramantanes and pentamantanes have not been
available for application development until now. Also available are
research quantities of other higher diamondoids, up to heptamantane.
MolecularDiamond Technologies has also isolated large quantities of
the valuable lower diamondoids, diamantane and triamantane. Although
di- and triamantane can be synthesized in laboratories they have until
now been produced in small quantities at very high cost.
MolecularDiamond Technologies researchers used core process
technologies to scale-up production of diamondoids in quantities
sufficient for application R&D. As a result, for the first time new
research in various fields can be conducted with lower and higher diamondoids.
